Sustainability

We are one of the few vertically-integrated companies, owning the sustainable plantations, all the way through to the finished products, which provides control, efficiency, and flexibility. Environmental responsibility is critical to our business. As a socially, economically, and environmentally responsible company, we adhere to stringent Australian and international environmental laws, only sourcing our fibre from internationally certified suppliers.

Responsible Sourcing

Our products use fibres from Eucalyptus and Acacia trees from responsibly-managed plantations. These trees have a 6-8 year planting and harvesting cycle. These fast growing trees enable us to use less land to meet our customers growing demands for 1OO% Pure Pulp tissues.

Committed to Zero Deforestation

Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) is our strategic supply partner. APP is committed to zero deforestation, protection of High Carbon Stock (HCS) and High Conservation Value (HCV) forests in the world’s most critical regions, restoring forests and peatlands, reducing carbon emissions for the benefit of the global climate and creating community-based agro-forestry and education programs.

In September 2014, as one of the leaders in sustainable forestry practices, APP, along with several national governments, global consumer brand companies and NGOs, signed the New York Declaration on Forests where signatories committed to zero deforestation and to collectively slow, halt and reverse global forest loss.

Rapid Renewable Fibre

Together, Solaris Paper and our strategic supply partner APP promote responsibly grown and managed Rapidly Renewable Fibre (RRF) plantations.

RRF uses fast growing Eucalyptus and Acacia trees that reach full height and can be harvested every 6 to 8 years. These young trees enable shorter harvest cycles yielding more paper from more trees, on less land and in Less time. We use these trees for more than 80% of our base products on average.

Our virgin RRF based products are whiter, brighter and softer than recycled paper – making them the smarter paper option.

Environmental & Product Benefits

When the quality of Rapid Renewable Fibre is compared to recycled paper products, RRF offers a sustainably base alternative.

  • Quick replenishment makes RRF fibre based products the sustainable choice when sourcing hygienic tissue products.
  • Towel and tissue products derived from virgin RRF provide a premium quality, whiter, brighter, and softer end-product.
  • Electronic media continues to drive down the world supply and availability of waste paper for recycling. The quality of base recycled content is being compromised and costs are increasing.

Top 5 Reason to Choose (RRF) Rapidly Renewable Fibre Tissue

1. RESPONSIBLY HARVESTED UNDER IDEAL GROWING CONDITIONS.

RRF is produced from trees with a significantly shorter life cycle allowing them to be economically harvested on 6-8 years, and replenished quickly. RRF based products are a steady and secure supply.

2. DELIVERING UNMATCHED STRENGTH AND SOFTNESS

Our unique virgin fibre combination delivers reliable tissue strength as well as “at home” softness due to the abundance of short fibres.

3. RAPID DISPERSIBILITY IN WATER

RRF tissue paper products disperse rapidly in water due to their highly absorptive properties, thereby making them suitable for most toilet systems.

4. NO NEED FOR OPTICAL BRIGHTENING AGENTS (OBA)

RRF paper products do not require the addition of OBA needed to conceal impurities remaining after the de-inking of recycled fibre.

5. REDUCED ENERGY FOOTPRINT VS RECYCLED PAPER

Use of virgin fibre avoids the extra energy footprint and toxic chemical contamination added during collection and re-processing of recycled waste paper.

Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC)

Environmental responsibility is critical to our business. Our Sydney plant has Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) Chain of Custody (CoC) certification.

This carries a responsibility to ensure 100% of our raw materials are either PEFC CoC certified or are non-controversial sources under PEFC guidelines.

For more information on PEFC Chain of Custody visit:

Solaris Paper maintain a strict, zero-tolerance policy for illegal fibre entering the supply chain and implements comprehensive, independently audited systems to ensure that the raw materials we purchase are from legal and responsibly managed forests.

We adhere to strict, independently audited, Legal Origin Verification and Chain-of-Custody protocols to ensure complete transparency on the origin of our raw materials. Our suppliers operate pursuant to national and international regulations and in many cases exceed regulatory requirements by undertaking a range of voluntary measures to promote sustainability.

Solaris Paper adheres to the strict due diligence requirements of the Australian Government’s Illegal Logging Prohibition legislation.
